Originally developed by Syntrillium as Cool Edit, the program was distributed as crippleware. Syntrillium Software was founded in the early 1990s by Robert Ellison and David Johnston, both former Microsoft employees. Here's some wikipedia trivia about cooledit: Reaper is cool, but I think the multitrack interface of cooledit is still a little bit more clear/consice and logical. ![]() ![]() SAW is probably the next best thing if it wasn't for the price tag and ugly UI. They really mucked it up.įrom an engineers perspective, may be protools/logic/cubase are you best bets, but as a musician you want an application that allows you to easily setup a track so your work flow is smooth when you are trying to be creative. Audition is just as bloated and slow as cubuse or protools. I think it's a real shame that Syntrillium sold out to Adobe because if they had just simply added midi, vst functionality it would be the most perfect SAC available. STILL the easiest audio recorder/editor to use! I use this SAC in combination with sound forge for mastering and it's incredibly simple to get your tracks up to par for a home demo project.
